I have been asked a lot lately about what to do in Omaha during the holiday season besides eating and shopping. So this is what I came up with after some research... my favorite TOP 5 THINGS TO DO BEFORE END OF THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!

Holiday Poinsettia Show at the Lauritzen Gardens

This year's show theme is The Year of the Bird, celebrating 100 years of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. More than 5000 poinsettias in nearly 20 different varieties were grown for the 2018 display. In the center of it all, a magnificent and majestic 20-foot-tall poinsettia tree stands tall.

November 23, 2018 through January 6, 2019 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day)

Standard garden admission rates apply to visit the holiday poinsettia show. Members are admitted free.

Holiday Poinsettia Show Aglow at the Lauritzen Gardens

The garden will glow with the holiday spirit from the twinkling trees in the birch forest, to the exotic creatures in the conservatory, and will be transformed into a winter wonderland filled with unique and festive decor, a magnificent and majestic 20-foot-tall poinsettia tree, the whir and whistle of the holiday express, and other illuminated displays. November 24 and 25

December 1, 2, 8, 9, 14-23, 26-30 . January 2-6 . Open from 5 to 8 p.m.

Jim Brickman: A Joyful Christmas at Holland Performing Arts Center

Christmas sparkles with new life as Grammy-nominated songwriter and piano sensation Jim Brickman brings his beautiful music and charm to his 30-city holiday tour A Joyful Christmas. In honor of this 22nd annual holiday tour, Jim will debut original songs, along with the sounds and stories of the season. Hailed by Nashville Music News as a “holiday classic” and “not to be missed,” Jim brings his favorites, the hits and classics and exciting new sounds in a concert experience like a Christmas card come to life.

Bubbly New Year’s Eve Party at Omaha Children's Museum

Ringing in the New Year with bubbles! Enjoy bubble activities like DIY bubble wands, bubble painting and the popular Bubble Science Show. Plus there will be character meet & greet opportunities with a mermaid! The night ends with a bubble wrap stomp, sparkling apple juice toast and a fizzy countdown at “midnight.” Monday, Dec. 31,2018. 5pm to 8 p.m.

All activities are included with museum admission (and free for member families), while supplies last.

Holiday Lights Festival – New Year’s Eve Fireworks Spectacular

The last signature event of the Holiday Lights Festival, enjoy the spectacular show with family and friends before heading out for the evening. And be sure to arrive early – the event is expected to draw thousands of people.
